large_SetonHallLogoSeton Hall University decided to suspend Keon Lawrence indefinitely for his involvement in a crash onMKKXZUEFHQRJOED.20091029155014the Garden State Parkway.  Lawrence was traveling in the wrong direction and hit another car; he was under the influence.  He was also charged with a suspended license.

Lawrence transferred from the University of Missouri in 2008.  He was projected to start in the Pirate’s season opener against St. Peter’s this Friday.  Coach Bobby Gonzalez had this to say:

“We will respond accordingly when all of the facts of this matter have been collected.  Effective immediately, Keon Lawrence has been suspended from the team indefinitely.”

Lawrence was treated for severe facial cuts and was alone in the car.  The driver of the other vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

imagesMore bad press for a BIG EAST team.  Lawrence and Seton Hall join, Villanova, Louisville, West Virginia, and Pittsburgh as just another team to have an off the court issue.  We must commend Seton Hall and Coach Gonzalez for their quick and decisive actions.  It was a bad situation, but it looks like they are handling it well.  We are also glad that nobody was seriously hurt.

On the court this really hurts a Seton Hall team that was ready to make a jump this season in a weakened BIG EAST.  Lawrence was a good player at Missouri where he averaged 11 points per game and was a projected starter at Seton Hall.  Without Lawrence the Pirates take an unfortunate step back in the always competitive BIG EAST.  His scoring ability and guard play will have to be made up somewhere else.

Let’s also be thankful that PC has had no off the court issues this season.  Its always better when you can just focus on basketball.
