syracuse logoWith Syracuse’s 75-43 victory over Albany last night Coach Jim Boeheim tallied his 800th career win (all at Syracuse).jim.boeheim Boeheim becomes just the eighth D-1 coach to reach the milestone.  To find Boeheim’s first win as a coach you will have to rewind to 1976 when he out-coached Harvard 75-48.  Boeheim joins Coach Jim Calhoun and Coach Mike Krzyzewski as the only other active coach with 800 wins.  Boeheim had this to say after the game:

“I appreciate you all staying up so late. It’s way past my bedtime. Obviously, it’s a great milestone for a coach to get.  I’m proud of all the players that we had.”

Boeheim adds his 800 win milestone to a NCAA Championship and an Olympic Gold Medal.

imagesCongratulations to Coach Jim Boehim on his accomplishment.  We know Syracuse is a rival school, but as fans of the BIG EAST and college basketball in general you have to take a second and admire what Boeheim has been able to do.  To coach for the years he has at Syracuse is a feat in itself, but to be that successful with a program that he essentially made is even more impressive.  So we congratulate Jim Boeheim and wish him much more success (except against the Friars) during the rest of his time with the Orange.

Also, it looked like Syracuse rebounded from the exhibition blunder.  People were very quick to get on them, but it was just an exhibition.  Besides Ohio State who blew out Alcorn State, they actually faired much better than the other ranked teams last night.  UNC didn’t struggle with FIU, but also didn’t beat up on them like you would expect, and Cal only got away with a five point win over Murray State.
