Yahoo Sports Picks PC to finish 12th in Big East

Posted: September 2, 2009 in Rankings

Jason King of yahoo sports listed his predictions for the Big East season.  He has Villanova in the number one spot yahoo-logoand PC coming in at the twelve spot.  King had this to say about the Friars:

Providence – Keno Davis made somewhat of a splash in his first season at Providence by winning 19 games and getting to the NIT, where it lost in the first round to Miami. Included in the Friars’ victory total were triumphs over Syracuse and Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, just as Davis appeared to be getting things going, the Friars graduated eight players – including five who combined to average 51.3 points and 25.3 rebounds in 2008-09. Still, with a talented coach such as Davis on the sideline, the Friars will always have a chance. And it also doesn’t hurt that guards Sharaud Curry (11.7 points) and Marshon Brooks (10.1) return after averaging double figures in scoring last season.

Here are King’s rankings:

1.  Villanova

2.  West Virginia

3.  Connecticut

4.  Georgetown

5.  Louisville

6.  Syracuse

7.  Pittsburgh

8.  Cincinnati

9.  Notre Dame

10.  Seton Hall

11.  Marquette

12.  Providence

13.  St. John’s

14.  South Florida

15.  Rutgers

16.  DePaul

imagesNothing too different than other Big East predictions.  Villanova is again thought to be #1 (although we think that West Virginia will finish better than Villanova).  There is always room for discussion on how the middle of the pack should look, but overall this looks about right going into the season.  But of course preseason predictions are never exactly the same as how things play out, and once again with PC sitting in the 12 spot, there is a real chance to catch people by surprise and turn a few heads this season.
